The Cultural Engagement Team is returning to a regular meeting schedule, with the next meeting on April 19 at 1:00 p.m. We are welcoming employees who would like to be working members of the committee and are interested in helping our organization better understand diversity and equity issues within our communities.

CET is pleased to offer the following educational opportunities for employees:
March 22 – Noon MST
For more than 100 years, many state and local medical societies openly discriminated against black physicians, and the AMA was early and persistent in countenancing this racial segregation. This history of segregation, bias, and exclusion continues to adversely affect American medicine and the patients we serve.
March 24 – May 5
Offered through the University of Southern Florida, this seven-week certificate program includes two-hour modules each week that can be completed at your leisure. The program will focus on ways organizations can create a more diverse workplace, while addressing equity issues and fostering inclusiveness.
Monday, March 29 – 5 p.m. MST
Offered through Cornell University, this 1.5 hour seminar focuses on racism’s impact on access to healthcare and health outcomes. The webinar will explore the ways in which inequality permeates the American medical system and how these disparities affect both economic well-being and the health of minority populations.
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.” (Continue …)

On Thursday, March 25 at 4 p.m., Jill Davis will be the next employee to enjoy a pie in the face! Ashley Hatch will do the honors of throwing a delicious pie at Jill outside of Building A (weather permitting).
